One in 10 of all retail businesses affected by riots; 65% are independents
Over 10% of the UK's retail and leisure companies have been directly or indirectly impacted by the current riots and looting, new research reveals.
After four days of unrest, 28 town centres have been affected, the Local Data Company said, with a total of 48,404 shops, pubs, restaurants, pubs and clubs have been directly or indirectly impacted. This amount to 10.2% of all retail and leisure firms.
Independent businesses with less than five outlets account for 65% of all those involved. Croydon furniture store House of Reeves, which was founded in 1867, is one example. The retailer was destroyed during the riots and may never open again......read more
